THE GOWTHAM ADANI
AMERICA AND GAUTAM ADANI
Money is an undeniable fact that one of the important reasons why the world runs is money. Money is needed for everything, the question is how it is used for good and evil. Money that is used for visible good can also be used for evil without being seen. For example, giving money as a bribe to get something done for oneself. Bribery is not visible to the eyes, but if proper evidence is found, it can be proven. Gautam Adani, who is currently on the list of the richest people in the world, has made the world look back. He has now been accused in a New York court of America of giving bribes to get his needs.
MR. GAUTAM ADANI
The US has charged Gautam Adani, India's leading industrialist and the second richest man in India, with bribery and fraud charges. Gautam Adani (62), the chairman of the Adani Group of Companies, is the 17th richest person in the world and the second richest in India. In this situation, Gautam Adani and his cousin Sagar Adani (executive director of Adani Green Energy) and 7 others, including former CEO Vineet Jain, have been charged in separate cases related to bribery and securities fraud in a New York court in the United States.
SOLAR ENERGY COPORATION OF INDIA
This company, called Solar Energy Corporation of India, was started by the central government in 2011. It will implement solar power projects and also provide solar power to the state electricity boards. The Adani Group has signed an agreement with this SECI company and is implementing various projects in India. The Adani Group has invested Rs. 20 thousand crores for these projects. Currently, the governments of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, and Jammu and Kashmir have signed agreements with SECI. The Adani Group has bribed government officials to the tune of 256 million US dollars, or about Rs. 2000 crores, to sign these agreements. This is what is now taking shape.
GIVEN BIG AMOUNT ON ANDHRA STATE
It is reported that these contracts were signed between 2020 and 2024. Adani Green Energy is accused of bribing electricity board officials of states including Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir to get solar power contracts for them. It is alleged that a bribe of US$ 228 million was paid to an Andhra Pradesh official alone to get a 2.3 gigawatt solar power supply contract in Andhra Pradesh alone. It is said that a larger amount was transferred to Andhra than to other states. The charge sheet also states that the Adani Group can earn revenue of US$ 2 billion (Rs. 16 thousand crores) in the next 20 years through these contracts obtained through bribery.
THE UNITED STATES SUED
Adani Green Power and Azure Power, which are listed on the US stock exchange, are accused of concealing bribes worth about Rs 2,000 crore and raising about $ 3 billion in loans and bonds from US banks and US investors. Although Indian officials were bribed, the case will be heard by a US court because American investors are involved in it. This is the law of the country. At the same time, even if an arrest warrant is issued, the chances of Gautam Adani being arrested are very, very slim. Thus, a charge sheet has been filed against Gautam Adani (62), Sagar S Adani (30), Vineet Jain (53), Ranjit Gupta (54), Cyril Cabanes (50), Saurabh Agarwal (48), Deepak Malhotra (45) and Rupesh Agarwal (50). Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and Jain were charged with securities fraud and conspiracy to commit securities fraud. Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani have also been charged in a US Securities and Exchange Commission civil case. The US Department of Justice has said that all the charges in the indictment are allegations and that the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Adani Group received investments worth Rs 300 million (Rs 25,000 crore) in the United States by concealing illegal bribery activities, it has been told in a court. Delhi-headquartered Azure Power has also been included in this bribery case. The US Securities and Exchange Commission has also filed separate charges against Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and Azure Power executives for violating US securities laws and regulations. Following this, a US court has issued arrest warrants against 7 people including Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani. US Justice Department lawyers have said that this will be sent to international law enforcement agencies.
GAUTAM ADANI DENIES THE COMPANY
Adani Group has denied these allegations and said, “The allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission against the directors of Adani Green are baseless. We deny these allegations. The US Department of Justice itself has stated that ‘accused persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty’. Therefore, all possible legal avenues will be explored. Adani Group has always been committed to maintaining the highest standards of governance, transparency and discipline. We assure our shareholders and employees that we are a law-abiding organization and fully comply with all laws,” Adani Group said.
CONCLUSION
Such mistakes have become normal in the world. Even though they know that what they are doing is wrong, some people who are in high positions in society think that they can easily get what they want because of money. As a result, they are the ones who are affected, as if they do not know it. Earning money is not an easy thing. Attention, talent and educational ability are applicable for this. If these are not there, one can only live a poor life in this world. Therefore, there is no doubt that such mistakes will decrease only if such mistakes are punished severely and proven with evidence. Whether an individual commits a crime, a company or a group commits a mistake, the punishment should be severe. Otherwise, the punishments will continue to increase in the country, the cases will increase and the time to investigate them will increase. Therefore, the courts should consider this and give punishments so that this should not happen.
